HP misleads customers about remanufactured cartridges?

In a new leaflet released by HP, the firm warns against clones, counterfeits and remanufactured cartridges.
A new pamphlet has been released by HP, entitled “The truth about clone cartridges.” Ostensibly warning about the dangers of clones, which “are the newest dubious alternatives” and “present an even greater threat to your business”, HP also goes on to compare its own OEM toner cartridges with clones, counterfeits, and remanufactured/refilled cartridges, stating that “used HP toner cartridges that are emptied, refilled, and resold by other manufacturers” do not “adhere to quality, safety or environmental standards.”
While HP’s warnings about clones can help consumers save both their money and their printers, as well as the environment, the firm’s comments about remanufactured cartridges are inaccurate and potentially damaging. All businesses involved in the remanufacturing industry are required to adhere to certain standards and regulations such as the WEEE Directive. As an example, ETIRA, the European Toner and Inkjet Remanufacturers Association has set out a Code of Conduct for its full members to “guarantee clients a high-quality competitive and environmentally friendly product and service”.
In addition, DIN, Germany’s world-renowned institute for standardisation has set out several standards for both remanufactured toner and inkjet cartridges, and certifications are also available from the Standardised Test Methods Committee and the American Society for Testing and Materials. Remanufactured cartridges can also be awarded environmentally friendly labels such as Blue Angel and Nordic Swan.
This is not the first time HP has warned against remanufactured cartridges, and the firm has made numerous headlines in recent months with the release of firmware that blocks third party cartridges.
